Review
There's been a bar in Candle House on Granary Wharf for quite a few years but it didn't become much of the draw until Salt Brewery took it on in 2022.
Part of the Ossett Brewery family, Salt is the more adventurous arm of the business. Supplying a steady flow of flavourful and usually hoppy and hazy IPAs, just what the discerning craft enthusiast is after these days. The characterful Candle House is a great outlet for this bar, one of several they have in Leeds and the surrounding area.
Situated on Granary Wharf just behind Leeds Railway Station and overlooking the Leeds Canal it appears like it's on a little island between the docks. A really great spot for an alfresco beer in the summer with spacious water views and a relaxing atmosphere away from the busy city centre.
Inside the bar has warm and urban feel with the open plan space divided into the large curved bar area with some high seating and standard height benches by the mostly glazed exterior windows. Lit by the soft glow of industrial lamps and neon signs against the open brickwork and metal girders.
As to be expected the beer range is predominantly Salt's own on keg with a couple of cask offerings, certainly plenty of good beers to get your teeth into, although prices are fairly high, as is most of Leeds city centre.
If you're after a bite to eat as well they have their own permanent street food vendor in the form of the Falafel Guys serving a range of middle eastern delights. We didn't partake on this visit but it looked good.
All in all Salt Granary Wharf is a quality bar and always makes a nice relaxing place to drink, we always seem to use it as a meeting place but hope to get back in the summer to enjoy the beer garden too.
