Review

The Rockingham Arms is a traditional coaching inn which was built during the 18th Century, it stands as the only pub in the small village of Towton near Tadcaster.

Towton is famous as the location of one of the War of the Roses most bloody battles when in 1461 the Lancastrians clashed with the Yorkists in the nearby fields. If you're into history then this pub can stand as a good stop off on the Battlefield Trail which goes out of the village and across the stunning local countryside.

The pub itself is rather bland on the inside unfortunately and is rather limited with its selection on the bar, just one Black Sheep cask, some keg ales and the usual generic lagers. Prices are good though and due to its rural location food seems to be more of a focal point, but as we were just stopping by for a drink I can't comment on this.

The pub has a few tables in the front bar and a couple of rooms to the rear, including a very large conservatory but the real feather in the cap of the Rockingham Arms is their very large beer garden and decked area at the back.

It's not a bad pub but there's not much to entice us in apart from the fact that it's situated at the start of the Battlefield trail, it just seems to be lacking in atmosphere. Ok for a brief refreshment but it's soon time to walk on.
