Chequers is a quirky little Micropub situated in a peaceful courtyard just off Saturday Market in Beverley which opened in 2013. From the outside it just looks like another small shop unit but there's actually a lot more space inside than the exterior implies, along with a couple of tables for alfresco drinking in the front yard as well.
The main room is split on two levels with a chequerboard floor throughout, bright yellow walls and simple seating. Art nouveau lights and Breweriana adorn the wall, with the bar at the top designed like a Victorian apothecary, it's all a cosy mismatch of styles which adds to the friendly character of the pub.
They operate table service and with a great rotating range of four cask ales and six craft kegs the temptation to say for a long while was strong . The prices were good as well for the quality of beer on offer. Access is limited with the toilets being on the first floor but otherwise this is a cracking little Micropub that's certainly worth a visit, we can see why it has such a good reputation.
