The Mason's Arms is a fine looking Gothic revival mock Tudor pub built by Tadcaster Tower Brewery in 1935. It retains many of its original characteristics, including a reclaimed Victorian fireplace which was salvaged from the York Castle Gatehouse.
The interior is a large open space with the Public bar to the left, a sitting room central opposite the bar and the mostly unchanged Lounge to the right. With bench seating around the edges and plenty of tables to accommodate dining. As it would seem is the main focus for this pub with it being somewhat let down by its bland three beer offerings, which weren't the best kept casks. We're reliably informed that the food is top notch especially the Sunday Roast but other than the great looking classic interior it's not a pub that would draw us back too often for the beer alone.
They do have good extensive outside seating to the rear though with a nice unique view of the Foss Basin Moorings, that if you were looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy some alfresco sunshine it would be pretty nice.
