The Doghouse or the Saviour of Selby as I like to call it, is a great proper craft beer pub conveniently situated opposite Selby Bus Station with the Railway Station just up the road. Originally opened by The Little Black Dog Brewery out of Carleton it's now run by Rhythm & Brews who brew a lot of the beer available on the bar on site. There were 18 different beers on the bar when we visited, including 5 cask. A superb range of styles which were a little above average price on keg but better than average for cask, so it balances out a bit. At the end of the day if there are that many beers to choose from do you really want to be drinking pints anyway?
The pub is deceivingly large inside the old Georgian house, with the bar in the front room and a cosy space towards the back, upstairs is a large open plan area perfect for events, of which the lay on quite a few. Every inch of the building is decorated in graphics, music quotes, brewing information and all sorts. It’s a cacophony of design that lends a bright friendly character to the building. The toilets are also some of the cleanest I've ever seen, especially when we visited late on a Saturday night. The whole place was clean, fresh and welcoming which is a surefire bonus even if you are the only craft pub in the whole of Selby. With their own Mexican street food offerings to soak up the beers as well it's definitely a hit with the locals and a welcome destination for those looking for a more quality experience in the town.
